on Breaking Art - The Podcast

Jason Naylor, a photographer from Wellington, has kicked off Breaking Art - a podcast about the "alchemy of creativity and commerce." He showed up in his Combi van and we cruised out to the Otuataua Stonefields to take this photo and do the interview. It was a lot of fun. Listen to it at

The Dragon Defenders is #1!

OK, so it's not a real gold medal. It may have been borrowed for the occasion.

But it is official.

The Dragon Defenders is the top-selling children's novel by a Kiwi author, according to the Neilson Bestsellers List.

To say we're chuffed is an understatement.

When you write a book, commission some incredible illustrations and animations, make the decision to self-publish it, and instruct your printer to produce 5000 copies, it's nerve-wracking in the extreme. But when the copies are leaving the distribution centre (aka the garage) and being enjoyed by children around the country, it's unbelieveably satisfying.

And to reach number one is a dream.

Thanks to all who have read The Dragon Hunters, The Dragon Tamers and The Dragon Riders, and have now gone on to buy The Dragon Defenders. FYI - I'm working hard on the second novel in the series, which I hope to have out by late October 2017.

Early reviews for The Dragon Defenders - out April 26, 2017

The Dragon Defenders

This is my new novel The Dragon Defenders!

I hope you like it.

It continues on the story of Flynn and Paddy, but three years after The Dragon Riders. You'll remember at the end of that story Elton flies away to join his own kind, and the boys haven't seen him since.

Their lives are about to change when The Pitbull, an evil boss from the mainland, discovers that there are dragons on the island where the boys live. He wants a dead dragon for display in his house, and a dragon's egg, so that he can hatch it in his private zoo.

It's up to Flynn and Paddy to stop him, but it will take all their cunning, bravery and skill!

The book launches on April 25, 2017, but you can pre-order it now!
