Cover reveal: Children of the Rush

Without further ado, here's the cover (and the back cover) for my new book, Children of the Rush.

It has been so exciting writing a new series, and trying something totally different - historical fiction.

The gold mining history in New Zealand is fascinating - just imagine thousands of people who will stop at nothing to get their hands on a precious metal buried in the ground. Men quit their jobs, left their families and walked a hundred kilometres through mud and snow and ice to reach the goldfields. It was a lawless, crazy world, and one in which I've delighted in placing two resourceful children. They've surprised even me with their bravery and grit, and their ingenious minds.

I really hope you enjoy getting to know Atarangi and Michael, and enjoy the book as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Children of the Rush is due to come out on November 30, 2022, but you can pre-order the book now by clicking here and it should be in your mailbox by December 1. Also, sign up for my email newsletter here and I'll be in touch!

Here's the moment the advance copies turned up at my house.

"The plot is thrilling, the setting at once idyllic and dangerous. Readers will be inspired to leave their devices and see what they can see from the top of a tree, to go outside, look for dragons, and have adventures as breathtaking as Paddy, Flynn and Briar."

"Part 3 in this heart-pounding adventure is sure to please Dragon Defenders fans. An Unfamiliar Place pounds the young brothers with new challenges, but with their feathered accomplice (Lightning the falcon) along for the ride, they battle through and never give up! The story stands on its own but the digital side of this great Kiwi series is a wonderful bonus. Loved it!"

Charlotte McKay

Judge, NZ Book Awards for Children and Young Adults

"Told at a rip-roaring pace with feats of incredible daring, masterful guile, and heart-stopping action. This is the book the fans have been waiting for!"

Eileen Merriman

"An earth-shattering adventure of seismic proportions. You might need to feign sickness so you can finish it in one sitting."

Jenna Todd

"I had so much fun reading this. It’s a rollicking adventure with a loveable cast of brave heroes."
